We Love Life
Ecotone champions biodiversity in all contexts, from green roofs to meadows, wetlands, parks and gardens.
An ecotone is a transition area where different ecological communities meet, intersect and integrate. As a consultancy, Ecotone dwells at the intersections between urban and natural; hard and soft; between disciplines and between communities.
At Ecotone, we strive to understand and communicate the needs of those lacking voices in the built environment, especially plants, insects and birds. We are inspired by natural ecotones, which host exceptionally rich biodiversity thanks to their intersectional nature.
Ecotone is grateful to live and work on unceded Coast Salish territory, including the ancestral lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Səl̓ílwətaʔ and Skwxwú7mesh Nations. We pay our gratitude forward by consulting with Indigenous knowledge keepers, building relationships, learning about and honouring protocol.
Ecotone is passionate about creating conditions for biodiversity. With expertise in urban ecology and green infrastructure, we offer services that soften the intersections between the built and natural environments. Restoring or enhancing conditions for biodiversity is an act of reconciliation and love. Our work is informed by current science with deep respect for traditional ecological knowledge.
